Company History
Advanced Composite Materials, LLC (ACM, LLC) began as Silag Incorporated in 1976 through a joint venture of Exxon Enterprises and Hulco, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah. Silag moved to Greer, South Carolina in 1979 and subsequently became the Materials Division of Exxon Enterprises in 1981.
In 1982, Atlantic Richfield Company purchased the company and renamed it the Advanced Materials Operation of ARCO Metals Company. Ownership was later transferred to ARCO Chemical Company.
ARCO divested many of its non-oil assets in the summer of 1986, and as a result, the company was incorporated by its investor group as Advanced Composite Materials Corporation in December 1986. It was subsequently sold to Tateho Chemical Industries Company, Ltd. of Japan in July 1987.
ACM, LLC became a standalone, privately-held company in July 2006 through a management buyout from Tateho Chemical.
Throughout its history ACM, LLC has continuously enhanced and refined its capability to develop and manufacture the finest products utilizing silicon carbide technology.
