ACM Introduces Functionalized Silicon Carbide

October 07, 2011

ACM has developed and patented a novel technology to graft organic consituents on the the surface of silicon carbide, and thereby functionalize the surface.   These products are now available to the market.  Initally, two products are available, SC-9-100 and SC-9-200.

  • SC-9-100 is amine functionalized
  • SC-9-200 is epoxy functionalized

Dr. Tom Quantrille, president of ACM, stated "Silicon Carbide is an inert material.  Getting anything to graft onto the surface is a major challenge.   We overcame this challenge, and did so at the nano-level.   What we have accomplished here is exciting and offers up a whole new realm of performance applications."

As mentioned, amino and epoxy chemistries are available.  Additional chemistries are also in the pipeline.
