SI-TUFF™ silicon carbide whiskers are used to dramatically enhance abrasion resistance, durability and service life of polymer systems. The whiskers lock into the polymer matrix to give outstanding physical properties.
SI-TUFF™ silicon carbide whiskers are processed using a special mechanical means to ensure uniform disperson. Additionally, we use a patented process to graft organic constituents onto the surface which make the whisker both physically and chemically compatible with the polymer matrix to which it belongs.
The result? SI-TUFF™ silicon carbide whiskers, which are compatible with all polymer systems, drop-in mixing capable, and engineered to provide optimal toughness for your application.
We offer the following products in our SI-TUFF™ product line:
- SI-TUFF™ SC-100 Series: Amino-Functionalized SiC Whiskers.
- SI-TUFF™ SC-200 Series: Epoxy-Functionalized SiC Whiskers.
- SI-TUFF™ SC-050: Pure, Non-Functionalized SiC Whiskers.
- Available in both dry powder form and aqueous dispersion.
SI-TUFF™ Applications Guide For Durable Protective Paints & Coatings
Suggested Use:
Typically, SI-TUFF™ SiC whiskers are used in industrial protective paints and coatings to improve durability and lifetime, or for other applications where the highest level of durability performance is required. For all crosslinked polymer systems, including both step polymerization and free radical crosslinked products. Can be used for thermoplastic as well to improve physical adhesion, but with a less pronounced result.
