Silar® silicon carbide whiskers, also referred to as nanotubes, are single crystals of SiC that are long, rigid rods. They have aspect ratios that exceed 10:1. Typical dimensions are 0.65 µm diameter with lengths exceeding 10 µm. The high L/D morphology offers some amazing properties: improved fracture toughness, modulus, abrasion resistance, flexural modulus, and general toughening. In addition, Silar® SiC whiskers have high thermal conductivity for maximum heat dissipation.
